"Beaux & Eros"

January 28 - April 8, 2007

Beaux & Arrows

Provocative, sensual, humorous - paintings and sculptures by 50 artists from sea to sea honor romance with grace and style during "Beaux & Eros II"

Curator Jerry Emanuel selected the artworks for the exhibition from over 400 images submitted by artists last fall. Twenty-two of the artists are located in the Bay Area.

"The spirit of "Beaux and Eros" is ever-changing yet always the same, reflecting the love, humor, and pathos of the closest of human relationships. These feelings justify our universal participation in the joy and celebration of St. Valentine's Day," according to Emanuel.

Bay Area artists exhibiting in "Beaux & Eros II" include Francie Allen (Palo Alto); Doris Berman, Sofia Carmi, Jo Hanson, Daniel Merriam (San Francisco); Cliff Bernie, Lianne Thompson (San Mateo); Christine Bolivar (Oakland), Nancie Crowley (Los Altos Hills); David Gilhooly, Karen Gutfreund, Lynne Todaro (San Jose); Patty Jones (Pacifica); Boris Koodrin (San Bruno); Antonia Lawson (San Rafael); Douglas McCarty (Burlingame); Ron Meadow (Felton); William Morales (El Granada); Betty Peng (Hillsborough); Ribitch (Berkeley); Laura Rose (Newark); North West (Belmont); and Lee Zeff (San Carlos).

"Certainly this show should ravel to San Francisco and Oakland - Berkeley area. Wonderful diversities of styles, viewpoints, and conceptualizations. Brava, Bravo!"

"There are endless variations on the theme and the examples in this exhibit range from mildly shocking to sweet nostalgia. Kudos to the artists and the curator."

"In my opinion . . . this show could travel and be shown in Paris, New York, or any "big" traditional art cultured town. Bravo! Belmont, you are on! "

The opening of "Beaux & Eros II" will be followed on Feb. 10 by the second annual "Beaux & Eros II Gala". The 2006 Gala featured the Tango with trained dancers demonstrating and teaching. For the 2007 Gala, the featured dance will be The Waltz. For details and updates, please check the Special Events page.
